I am an academic and artist in theatre arts originally from Seoul, South Korea, and I currently reside in New York city.
I stepped into this world of theatre with a very common story: theatre simply excited me too much to ignore it! But what could have stayed a simple pastime turned into something serious - and for me, theatre is ALWAYS a serious business, no matter the mood of the specific practice.
With a B.A. in Aesthetics and Communications, and M.A.(s) in Performance Studies, I am still in the process of creating my own path in explaining the diverse world of theatre. I am not looking for an answer, but questions that will move me forward. I am especially interested in returning to popular concepts and written works of theatre and drama to reassess their meaning and possible expansion. With this in mind, I am currently pursuing my PhD at the Theatre and Performance program, CUNY Graduate Center.
Also, while am naturally led by academic questions, I believe first-hand experiences in theatre arts are detrimental in seeking my way. This led me to pursue training and participation in various practices, including acting, dance, and martial arts.
